In some situations, a simplex channel is helpful during an operation. Of course, an unused frequency is the best choice.
We have chosen the frequency of, 147.52 MHz. This particular frequency seems to be unused in our area, is far enough away from our two repeater input frequencies so as not to cause desense, and is easy to remember – nationwide calling frequency (146.52 + 1 MHz).
Please program in this frequency in all your radios.
The Henderson County Amateur Radio Emergency Service net will be the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. We will be running the net on the CCARC repeater K5CCL, 146.900 MHz, Negative Shift, 136.5 Tone.
You do not need to be an ARES member or an ARRL member or a club member to check in, we invite all area ham operators to check in.
And a reminder that the North TX ARES net is the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 8:30 p.m. on 3.860 MHz.
The addition of an Echolink node on the Cedar Creek ARC repeater now offers us a direct connection to the National Weather Service Fort Worth ham station via EchoLink. That station is staffed with volunteers during severe weather days. It’s already proven its value this Spring during severe weather, with the NWS communicating directly with us on our nets as needed.
When reporting weather conditions on a SKYWARN net, please describe your location such that someone not familiar with our local area would understand. For example, use mileage from a town or major road or intersection rather than a local landmark.

HEAVILY RELY ON THE EYES AND EARS OF OUR PARTNERS IN THE FIELD TO
HELP US KNOW WHATS REALLY HAPPENING.
HISTORICALLY…AMATEUR RADIO OPERATORS HAVE PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN
SEVERE WEATHER OPERATIONS OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. OFTEN
REFERRED TO AS HAMS…THESE VOLUNTEERS LEND THEIR TIME…EXPERTISE…
AND EQUIPMENT IN THE FORECAST OFFICE TO HELP COMMUNICATE WITH THE
COMMUNITY WHEN STORMS THREATEN. ONE REASON WHY AMATEUR RADIO IS SO
BENEFICIAL TO THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS THAT IT OFFERS THE
ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE WITH OPERATORS FROM ALL ACROSS THE REGION
SIMULTANEOUSLY. OUR HAM RADIO OPERATORS OFTEN COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY
WITH OUR TRAINED STORM SPOTTERS.
STORM SPOTTERS ARE TRAINED VOLUNTEERS WHO COME FROM ALL WALKS OF
LIFE. MANY WORK WITH THEIR LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICE TO
COLLECT WEATHER INFORMATION. THEY PROVIDE THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE WITH CRITICAL INFORMATION TO AID IN THE WARNING DECISION
MAKING PROCESS. SOME OF OUR SPOTTERS ARE MEMBERS OF THEIR LOCAL
COMMUNITY FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS…MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF
PUBLIC SAFETY…OR CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIALS. OTHER SPOTTERS ARE
SIMPLY MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC CONCERNED WITH HELPING THEIR COMMUNITY
IN A TIME OF NEED.
STORM SPOTTERS ARE TRAINED TO SAFELY OBSERVE AND REPORT SEVERE
WEATHER BY ATTENDING ONE OF OUR FREE STORM SPOTTER TRAINING CLASSES.
THESE CLASSES ARE CONDUCTED AS A JOINT EFFORT BETWEEN LOCAL EMERGENCY
ORGANIZATIONS…AND THE LOCAL NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE.
SEVERAL CLASSES ARE OFFERED ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE SPRING
MONTHS…AND AGAIN DURING THE AUTUMN MONTHS.
